Kreston makes a difference to South African Charity

November 5, 2008

International Office and Member firms make a difference to one local South African Charity.

ThembaCare, a subsidiary project of the Thembalitsha Foundation in South Africa has benefited from member firm donations, given during the world conference.

ThembaCare is a dedicated care centre for babies and children who are HIV positive in the Western Cape. At any given time there are up to 18 children in the in-patient unit and so far those at the centre care for over 500 infected and affected children through their home based care programme.

The centre wishes to extend and develop the existing home based care network so that more children in need of care can be reached. They also strive to offer a home to children who have nowhere else to go once discharged. This means either buying, building or renting homes in the community.

The money raised by Kreston International and its members and presented to Centre Manager Fredelene Smith during the conference was R45 000 (US$4,058). Since we highlighted the nature of the charity, member firms have also donated further monies which we will be forwarding on.
Following the conference in Cape Town, the International Office team visited the hospital to meet staff and children and to see how the money will be used. We will update you all on this in future bulletins and thank you again to all those who have made a donation to date.
