Latin America Network to Win

The 14th Kreston Latin America Conference was held in Guatemala over 7-9th May and hosted superbly by the partners and staff of Velasco Sarat & Asociados.

Delegates attended from Guatemala, México, Venezuela, Costa Rica, Panamá, Nicaragua, Argentina, Miami (CBIZ MHM), Honduras and El Salvador. Travel concerns relating to the recent outbreak of swine flu meant a number of members from Spain, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Uruguay and Peru choose the option of participating in the debates via WebEx.

The Conference Programme covered a wide range of topics and included an update on Kreston strategy. Lisicki Litvin, our member from Argentina, presented on the success of their independent service company, Resguarda which provides a whistle blowing fraud prevention service for major companies. The ability to expand this service throughout South America was seen as a great opportunity.

Jose Vila, Managing Director of CBIZ MHM Miami, presented on the excellent gateway their Spanish speaking office provided for Latin American business seeking reassurance when investing into the USA and Despacho Miguel del Olmo gave a detailed demonstration of CaseWare – Kreston’s preferred global audit software.

The Conference commenced with a Cocktail Reception in the Barceló Hotel and for the subsequent two evenings, the delegates and companions dined at traditional local restaurants and were entertained by folk dancing and local singers.

Kreston’s Executive Director, Jon Lisby said:   “Kreston’s development in Latin America over the past year has been exceptional – we have extended our representation to a further 5 countries in Central America and significantly strengthened our resources in Venezuela and Argentina. The level of collaboration that is growing between the member firms is most encouraging and it was very rewarding to see 16 countries involved in this Conference”.
